‘Waterproof’ vs IP67 – What it really means for you

The term ‘Waterproof’ is one of the most misused and misunderstood words when it comes to electronics.

Knowing our cameras will be used on a range of machines such as Jet Ski’s, boats and dirt bikes that encounter copious amounts of water and dirt, we’ve created a truly versatile and rugged Powersport Camera – one that is proven to perform in those conditions.

K3 FIRMWARE

INNOVV IP67 Rating – what is it?

The IP Code or International Protection Rating, sometimes also interpreted as Ingress Protection Rating. This consists of the letters IP followed by two digits and sometimes an optional letter for other categories or specific circumstances a part may be used for. The IP Rating is a globally recognised rating and is used to test and rate products that are used in harsher environments than the norm.

As defined in international standard IEC 60529, it classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects like dust, accidental contact, and water in electrical enclosures. The IP rating provides users of these products more detailed information than vague marketing terms such as ‘waterproof’.

IP 6 7

Breaking down the IP code that INNOVV has been awarded is simply a matter of following the IP chart.

Dirt and Solids Protection

The first digit (6) indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts (e.g., electrical conductors, moving parts) and the ingress of solid foreign objects. This is particularly important when our cameras are exposed to dirt, sand and everything else we can fling at them, and not hiding behind a windscreen or a scratched protective case.

This table will tell you that both our K3 and K5 that have the rating of 6, have met the maximum rating protection against dirt ingress and will provide complete protection.

Water Protection

The second number (7) relates to the protection that the enclosure provides against water.

INNOVV K3 and K5 have been proven to show they can operate safely even when continually immersed up to 1m of water. Now unless you are driving a submarine, then personally I don’t know of any powersport equipment that would be going more than a metre under water with the exception of jet ski stunt riders.

This means that all the water splash received on a jet ski, wake boat or riding in torrential rain will not ingress and damage the INNOVV K3 and K5 systems.

BUILT TOUGH

All INNOVV powersport cams provide a simple and rugged yet stylish design.  Our cameras and the base of the DVR are constructed of durable and lightweight aerospace aluminium alloy, featuring a stylish appearance and durable performance.

With the IP67 Rating backing you up, go get wet, blast through the dirt, and record every amazing minute with our INNOVV Powersport Cameras. Â
